ABOUT ME

Welcome to Career Exploration,

My name is Bryan Salsgiver and I am in my seventh year teaching. I have spent all seven of my teaching years working in the inner city schools of Kansas City, Kansas. I attended Avila University where I received my degree in Business Education.

I have been coaching highschool football for the past eleven years and have also coached basketball and baseball. I am an avid sports fan and diehard Kansas City Chiefs fan.

I have been married eight years to my beautiful wife Natalie. We have a beautiful fireball red headed daughter named Harper and a son who was just born on November 16th, 2016 his name is Colton. My kids are the love of my life and daily inspiration to provide the absolute best to my students just like I would want any of their teachers to do.

I work at Turner Middle School as the Career Exploration teacher.

In 2015 I was a Verizon Grant Award Winner in the amount of $20,000.

With this grant I will be able to purchase STEM related equipment for the classroom.

Science

Technology

Engineering

Math

That money will be dedicated to bringing unique equipment and opportunites to the classroom that will enhance the learning environment and take Career Exploration to an elite level of career and technology based learning.

My inspiration:

At a young age the importance of school was stressed to me by my mother Kristy Salsgiver. She is has a glowing personality and loving heart. She has always been my biggest inspiration and always challenged me to be the best at what I do. She bent over backwards to support me growing up in acadmeics and sports. I am the first person in my immediately family to earn a degree and none of it would have been possible without her love and encouragment. Mom I love you dearly and thank you for all you have and continue to do for me.

Teachers and Coaches made such a big impact on my life. They helped sculpt me, make me curious and challenge me. I strive to be like the great ones before me and make everlasting impacts on the kids I teach.

Why do I teach?

I love it. I love building relationships with kids, gaining their trust and then challenging and pushing them to what they are capable of that they yet dont see in themselves.

I love being goofy and dressing up on spirit days, and making fun of myself everychance I get.

I love teachable moments because so much of what we teach kids is not content but how to be a respectable human being.

I love watching kids be curious and try new things, I love the fun conversations and the challengening problems.

I love working with great people who have a passion for the same.

I love being a positive role model.

I love teaching because it challenges my thinking and you receive instant feedback about your performance.

I love teaching because these kids need me as much as I need them.

And I love teaching because I make an impact.

Im not foolish enough to believe that every student I every have is going to like me or want to learn from me but regardless of the kid Im going to give each class I teach everything I got because like the great teachers that I had growing up they showed up, they were passionate and they loved their job. I promise to do the same.

Our Philosophy

Offer the best career and technology class in Kansas City where students work hands on to explore a variety of career opportunites.

Through a module based approach students work in small groups to gain hands on expierence with interactive projects.

Inspiring every student, every day, to achieve the best.

Our History

The Career Exploration program has come a long way since the beginning of the school year. When I first took over the class we had some very outdated equipment and some outdated modules.

I saw an opportunity with a new superintendnt, new principal and myself being new to come up with a plan to re-create a class that students deserved.

There are so many people that were a huge part of this vision and this process that allowed a full transformation. A big thank you to everyone that has helped in this process and continue to support the program as we work to offer the best career and technology class in Kansas City.
